Change Your Soundtrack: Reclaim and Renew Your Inner Narrative

Change Your Soundtrack is a Bible study for women

by Julie Jeffery Manwarren.

Although much has been written for Christian audiences about the mind, a Bible study for women on the important topic of inner narrative was lacking.

The world has a lot to say about inner narrative. Podcasts and books from people like Brene Brown and others have informative and helpful dialogue about this topic.

But I wondered,

What does the Bible say?

I wanted to find out. This led me to search for examples of inner narrative in God's Word. I found several! And as I applied the principles and guidance God gives about man's inner thoughts to inner narrative (those thoughts we string together to form a story), I found freedom and peace. I wanted to share what I learned with other women. That led me to teach two women's Bible study groups in my church and speak at a women's conference about what the Bible has to say about inner narrative. I've published this Bible study to give encouragement and help to women who desire to reclaim their thoughts and allow God to renew their minds and rewrite their inner narratives.

We are all works in progress. God isn't finished with us yet. Let's continue to press toward the goal of Christ likeness. Not only in our walk and outer behaviors but in the transformative renewing of our minds.

Are inner narratives wreaking havoc on your mind?

Have you ever had a fight with someone in your head? You may have imagined what you would say to that person and then scripted their lines too!

Have you ever experienced worry or anxiety that led you to imagine a future scenario? If rehearsed, it may become a narrative in your mind replaying those thoughts over and over and holding you in fear.

Inner narrative is the story you tell yourself about your past, your present, and your future. It can also be the dialogue about the people you interact with and the circumstances you experience. Left unchecked, your inner narrative can create unreliable or untrue versions of life experiences. When repeated, inner narratives like these become a soundtrack playing in the background of your mind.

Change Your Soundtrack

The mind is an important spiritual battlefield and the Bible has a lot to say about it. Thoughts can create strongholds if they are not taken captive (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). In this 9-session study, Scripture guides women to evaluate the truth of God's Word and then examine their thoughts in light of His truth and seek change from the inside out.

This study shows from God’s Word how we can reclaim our thoughts and gives practical tools to help surrender them to God so that He can renew our minds. Using practical tools and application of biblical principles, readers discover the difference it makes when God rewrites their inner narrative.

Thought Record Journal:
A Practical Tool to Reclaim Your Thoughts

Change Your Soundtrack introduces a Thought Record Journal exercise in Chapter 2. This activity applies biblical principles to help women evaluate their thoughts using guided questions.

A separate Thought Record Journal is available from the author to accompany the Change Your Soundtrack Bible study. It can be ordered by clicking on the 'order now' button above.

Inspired and reviewed by Christian counselors, this method has given freedom for many in overcoming toxic thoughts, finding victory from overreactions when "triggered," and reclaiming inner narratives that cause us to spiral, or be held in bondage.

Change Your Soundtrack guides women back to truth, challenges them to reclaim sinful or damaging thoughts, and encourages them to surrender their thoughts to God so that He can rewrite their inner narratives.
