The Wilkes-Barre Glass Negatives - Intro

Paul Holbrook has done it again! He's sucked me in with his beautifully restored images from his amazing glass negative collection.

If you aren't following him already, be sure to view his work on the Camera Americana page on Facebook.

My history with Paul goes back several years. He was the major contributor to my book, "Floyd Ingraham's Springwater: A Finger Lakes' Hamlet" published by Acadia Publishing in 2021.

In December 2023, Paul contacted me that he had purchased over a hundred glass negatives from an eBay seller who claimed the images were of Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. This peaked my interest not only because the images were interesting with a beautiful family photographed, but because I lived near Wilkes Barre and knew the area.

With a lot on my plate at the time, I delayed researching them. One afternoon in early 2024, my curiosity got the better of me, and I dove in. I was pleasantly surprised.

I can't wait to show you what I have discovered and the stories behind the images. For now, here is a sneak peek. All images are courtesy of Paul Holbrook and used with permission.
